The Stormwater Management Academy is hosting Gisele Chaves an associate professor from the Department of Engineering and Technology in Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES) in Brazil. Professor Chaves was granted a Fulbright Visiting Research Scholarship from September 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019 and is continuing as a Visiting Scholar from January 1, 2020 to June 30, 2020. Dr. Chaves is an associate professor conducting classes for Industrial Engineering undergraduate students and the master students in Energy. Her research focuses are logistics and transport, reverse logistics, waste management, and optimization. She obtained her Bachelor in Food Engineering from Federal University of Viçosa (2003), master in Urban and Regional Planning from State University of Paraná (2005) and Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Federal University of São Carlos (2009) and was a visiting researcher at the University of Mediterranée (2007). Her current research is evaluating the availability of non-recycled paper, plastics and scrap tires to the production of refuse derived fuel (RDF) in a state of Brazil, based on the implementation of solid waste management policies. With the purpose to propose an optimized logistics network with the location and capacities for the RDF production.
